The Association for Africanist Anthropology (AfAA), in collaboration with the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, invites scholars to submit abstracts for its upcoming international conference:
Theme: Theory and Praxis: Rethinking Anthropological Engagements in Africa in the 21st Century
Dates: Thursday, July 2 – Sunday, July 5, 2026
Venue: Otunba Subomi Balogun Conference Center, University of Ibadan, Nigeria
This conference seeks to address pressing challenges in anthropology within West Africa and foster dialogue between the Global South and Global North. We welcome abstracts that explore the intersection of theory and praxis and contribute to shaping new debates about the discipline’s future in Africa.
Key Themes Include:
- Climate, Conflicts, and Constricting Borders
- Digital Culture, Access, and 21st Century’s Glocalization
- Decoloniality and the Future of Anthropology in (West) Africa
- Culture, Identity, and Belonging
- Foodways, Commensality, and Consumption Practices
- Space, Collective Memory, and the Sensory
Submission Guidelines:
- Abstracts should be no more than 200 words
- Include full name, affiliation, and contact details
